About the Committee

Bharatiya Bhasha Samiti: A High Powered Committee for Promotion of Indian Languages has been constituted by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, vide letter no.8-46/2021/L-II, dated 15th November, 2021. The mandate of this committee would be to explore and recommend pathways of the holistic and multi-disciplinary growth of Indian languages as envisaged in the National Education Policy-2020. The committee has been also entrusted to advise the Ministry on all matters pertaining to revitalization of existing language teaching and research and its extension in various institutions in the country.

To perform the tasks assigned to it, the High Powered Committee may appoint sub-committees/study groups. The committee may organize seminars, workshops, conferences, and webinars to highlight the need for the promotion of Indian languages. It may also interact and coordinate with any institution of the Central/State Government dealing with teaching, research, and extension/promotion of languages.

Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri National Sanskrit University (SLBSNSU), New Delhi would provide secretarial assistance and space to house the High Powered Committee and meet the related expenditure as per the Government of India rules, regulations and instructions from time to time. The SLBSNSU has been also entrusted to appoint consultants and experts/scholars/officials/young professionals on short-term basis and to conduct seminars, workshops, webinars, etc. as per the recommendations of the Committee. Necessary finance towards the same would be provided by the Ministry of Education (MoE) to the University under relevant budget heads.

Chairman

Shri Chamu Krishna Shastry is the Chairman of Bhararatiya Bhasha Samiti. He is a renound educationalist who had been working continuously for promotion of Indian languages. His early works were the promotion of sanskrit language, development of modern pedagogical techniques to enhance Sanskrit communicational skills of people and making Sanskrit a vibrant communicative language. He received Padmashree award form Govt. Of India on 2017 for its life long contribution to the nation. He has rendered his service as Senior Consultant Languages in MHRD. He has also servered as members of various committees of Central Sanskrit Board, National Manuscript Mission, NCERTm CBSE, UGC etc. He was instrumental in celebrating Year 2000-2001 as ‘Sanskrit Year’, a program of MHRD which gave momentum to Samskrit popularization activities. He immensely contributed to “Vision and Road Map for the Development of Samskrit, Ten Year Perspective Plan” in MHRD. He has also worked with various State Governments for the promotion of Samskrit and quality improvement in Samskrit Education.
